Barbara Jean Turbin Armstead arrived in this world on September 1, 1939 in San Antonio, TX to her biological parents mother Gussie Mae Nelson and father Edward Turbin. Soon after her arrival, she was adopted by her loving paternal Aunt LaBertha Scott Thomas and Uncle Samuel Thomas and raised in Freeman town (Richmond, TX).
She graduated from A. W. Jackson Senior High School in May 1958. One week later, on June 4, 1958 she married the love of her life Eddie James Armstead. They were one week shy of their 59th anniversary when she transitioned from this world. Barbara Jean was a dedicated wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 58.99 years Eddie Armstead, Sr., her 6 beloved children: Valerie Annette Armstead-Clay, Eddie James Armstead Jr, Ronald Jewel Armstead, Michael Anthony Armstead, Sylvia Yvette Armstead-Oats (Marc) and Bruce Wayne Armstead (Joyce); her 18 grandchildren for whom she was Mawmaw: Arron Corey (Rachael), Amber, Phillip, Terrance, Armond (Davenia), Anita, Alicia (Mario), Robin, Mia, Rhonda, Christian, Aaron (Hannah), Michael, Brandon, Quentin, La’Kerrica, Jessie (Jay), and Ronald; 13 great grandchildren, one sister Denise Siverand (Samuel), one adopted sister Annie Bell Sherman, one god sister Carrie Shorts, one god brother Roy Greenwood (Versey); sisters in law Delores Reed (Roy), Barbara Humphrey-Armstead, and Marion Jean Burleson (Greg), daughter in law Gloria Armstead, special nieces Katrina Blake (James) and Deidra (KayKay) Brown, special nephew Anthony Joe Kiser and special grandnephew/niece Brennan and Bria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and “play family.”
Funeral service will be held at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 303 N. 10th Street, Richmond, TX 77469, on Saturday June 3, 2017, at 11am. Viewing will begin at 10am.
