James “Jim” Herbert Withrow

James Herbert Withrow, 89, of Sugar Land, TX, was born on September 21, 1935, and passed away peacefully to be with his Lord & Loved Ones on February 5, 2025. Raised in Wichita Falls, TX and residing in Houston and then Sugar Land, Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 Jim married Shery Sue Belt in 1962; they were married for 62 years. Jim and Shery have been long time members (50 years) of Sugar Land Methodist Church, where he served as an usherand they both attended Bible Study fellowship.

Jim graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1953. He worked at the Ft Worth & Denver Railroad before moving to Houston where; after receiving his certification, he worked at Texas Instruments as a draftsman. He had a love for cars and for working on them. Jim and Shery wereblessed to acquire and operate their own business, a Texaco service station, for 27 years in the Meyerland area of Houston until they retired in 1999. He was an ASC certified mechanic, mechanically inclined, and gifted with the ability to fix many different things. He enjoyed watching auto racing and spending time with family and loved ones. 

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Bennett Lloyd and Rose Mary Withrow, and his son-in-law, Jim Matthews. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 62 years, Shery Sue Withrow; his daughters, Sheila Matthews and Lisa Withrow, his son, Paul Withrow and wife Karen; his 5 grandchildren, Alysha Rainwaters and husband Matt, James Walker and wife Jessica, Jessica Hawkins and husband Nick, Bennett Withrow and wife Ashlyn, William Withrow and wife Catherine; and 5 great grandchildren, Penelope Rainwatersand Coco Rainwaters, Cassidy Withrow and Blair Withrow, Charlotte Withrow, and Mila Hawkins; along with numerous friends and other loved ones.
